A new known known for me is the disturbing realization that moral depravity exists in the world to a degree I never imagined. And that logic, appeasement and acting on good faith to find a common sense compromise is worthless. It must be stamped out like the virulent disease it is, even as we hope and pray for a miraculous unknown unknown.

"If there is any solace, it comes down to some other unknown unknowns. The unknown unknowns that could very well turn out to be miraculous.

"These are the unknowns that in our darkest hours are worth praying for and dreaming about."

I never considered this, Rob. Thanks for providing some hope.

This is an unknown of unknowns of epic proportions. Sad, angry, disgusted. What is odd is that this quote is from one of the most aggressive hawks we’ve ever had in our administration for whom there wasn’t much room for unknowns.

You are so right. Rummy was far from a saint. But his quote here is helpful. Thanks for reading.

I could not have loved - or needed this more. I feel the despair and anger you describe, yet the hope of unknown unknowns that may just be miraculous - wow - how uplifting. Which is no small feat this week. Thank you, Rob.

Like many of us, I have been both touched and scarred by this darkness. This time, I found it challenging to answer the questions that initially arose in my mind: "What can I do? How can I help? What could I possibly say to make a meaningful contribution?"

As a result, I made the choice to step away from social media. Instead, I opened our home and prepared meals for my Israeli friends in Los Angeles, in a humble attempt to transform it into a haven where they could temporarily escape the magnetic pull of televisions, iPhone screens, and endless loudmouths, if only for a few hours on a Saturday.

Thank you, Rob, for articulating the words I struggled to find.
