I’ve always struggled with the first 4 because they all feel like variations on a theme: there’s a challenge, a hero overcomes it. Sometimes with a voyage, sometimes with quest, sometimes with a guide. Perhaps I’m too literal, but it’s been a struggle ever since I heard this theory. 😂
I use this in teaching writing and for my strategy work! It’s great.
They really get into it when I talk about how Jaws and Beowulf are the same story.

A quest to use it lol. Well, it’s not an absolute. It’s a theory. Besides, you’re probably too good of a natural storyteller to need it.
