I used to write an email to my company every Friday.
This is when I was a CEO.
I wrote these emails, first and foremost, to inform the agency about the activities from the week.
I also wrote them to enhance the culture. A way to codify and say, “you’re part of something special.”
[The Friday Email] as it became known and would appear in your inbox also created a benefit for me, personally.
It became a way to capture where I was. Not simply in a chronological or factual sense, but emotionally.
My zeitgeist within the zeitgeist of the business and the world at the time.
I tell you all of this on this particular Friday because writing a Friday Email might be a great practice for you.
Whether you are a leader of a company, a head of a team or simply the CEO of you, the discipline of writing a note to capture your week can have extraordinary benefits.
It can show your activities.
Point to any common themes.
Help identify any lessons learned.
And reveal your state of mind.
Why not write an email yourself today? It is Friday, after all.
One of the most transformational things you did. You should publish those emails to teach others. I still have the black book.
