Sunday Scaries, Monday Molehills
What if there was a way to turn Sunday dread into #MondayMotivation
Is there any more dreaded time of the week than Sunday around 5pm?
That’s the witching hour.
That’s the time when all the people, projects and items we pushed off last week come home to roost.
Yep, they show up in our consciousness and build-up in our mind.
By 7pm we’re anxious.
By 11, we’re petrified.
And for the next several hours we toss and turn in bed in a sleepless fit. We worry about horrible outcomes and chide ourselves for not attending to the these matters last week.
But I’ve noticed that when Monday shows up — and it always does — I often find that these Sunday Scaries were an utter waste of time and energy.
That somehow these fears were fakes.
I like legendary motivator Tony Robbins’ acronym for FEAR: “False-Evidence-that-Appears-Real.”
Indeed, when I layout my Monday and start tackling the hard stuff, it’s often not nearly as miserable as Sunday had me thinking. Oh, the items are still challenging, but there’s some kind of “salve” in the starting of the solving.
Of course, the Sunday Scaries are not going away simply because I blog about them.
No, they will show up again.
What might help is to simply acknowledge them when they show up. “Hello, Scaries, how lovely to see you AGAIN.”
Then you could find some time on Sunday afternoon — 30 minutes or so — to write them down and tend to them.
Another trick is to keep a running list on your phone over the weekend called “Weekend Notes.” When a “Scary” pops into your head, you simply write it down. Takes a minute. Come Monday am, you already have a to-do list.
Last coping mechanism? Exercise. What?! Sweat on a Sunday night?! You bet. Nothing fights Sunday Scaries like endorphins.
You’ll feel invincible after a work-out. In fact, strong enough to stomp a Sunday Scary into something a lot more manageable on Monday.
