We did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session at our Tiger Academy\Master Gunners learning and development program last week in Madrid.
I was on a panel with my wonderful fellow coaches.
One of the thoughtful questions during the session was about career transitions. In essence, how does your perspective change at different points in your career? Indeed, does it even change?
The tension of the moment forced some clarity.
I answered, “yes, your perspective changes.”
I expanded on this and used my own career journey as an example. I expressed these perspective changes as: “From me to we to you.”
Me
As a rising writer/creative I was completely focused on my stuff. My portfolio. My assignments. My work. My connections. My promotions. Me, me, me, me. Egotistical? Narcissistic? Unfortunately and annoyingly, yes.
We
When I got into a leadership position I leveled up emotionally and strategically. I took the focus off me and focused on “the We.” The team. The department. The agency. The network/collective. The clients. It was all about raising the tide for all boats.
You
Then something amazing happened. When I went from C-Suite positions like Chief Creative Officer and CEO and into Coaching, I turned all my energies toward you.
Yes, you.
You, my coaching clients. And you, my reader.
I went from serving the team to serving you. Your vision. Your challenges. Your success.
And I could not be more fulfilled.
It’s an honor. It’s a privilege. And it’s fun — to serve you.
Where are you on your journey?
Are you still in the “me” stage or are you at the “we” stage?
Or are you somewhere in between?
No matter where you are, I’m here to help.
