Brunch and Learn
Yesterday I was invited to give a speech and workshop at Curiosity Connections.
Curiosity Connections bills itself as “brunch conversations and workshops at the intersection of personal and professional growth.”
The sessions focus on what they call the 3 “M’s:” Mindset, Money, Muscle.
This was a Mindset session.
About 40 folks from all different careers and different stages of life braved the 10 degree NYC weather and showed up at the Gansevoort Hotel.
They were welcomed by the founders of this program, Rhonda George-Denniston and Gizem Ozturk.
Rhonda introduced me for the session and highlighted what she called my ability to “be like water.” She said that when observing my career and life she’d see that “a boulder” would show up in my stream every now and then and I always found ways to work around it.
So I talked and lead a workshop to that effect. In essence, how to be like water and navigate around the boulders of life.
No big presentation, no slides, just a talk from the heart and a few scribblings on an easel pad.
For my personal story I talked about reinvention. This is a topic I covered on this Substack before, but helpful still. And shared a framework that helped me that I believe can help you. Namely, when you are looking to make a change create a New Vision. Learn New Skills. And Start Doing.
For the workshop section, I did a classic GROW. (Also covered here.) Indeed, Sir John Whitmore’s classic framework always works as people talk about their Goals, Realities, Opportunities, and their Will to commit.
It was an inspiring session. Especially since the folks in the workshop were so generous with their ideas and engaged — sharing their goals, their epiphanies and discovering what they can do next.
If you’re in New York in April, think about coming to the next Curiosity Connections.
The weather will be better.
And you’ll find it’s not just brunch. It’s food for thought and nutrition for action.

Great to see you, Jim!
Rob, your gift for holding space and reflecting back the deeper wisdom was truly something to behold. You distilled every shared moment into clarity, and everyone left energized which was needed for the arctic chill outdoors. Thank you for bringing your unique magic, your presence makes all the difference.💛
